An ideal example of the use of diskless networks is our schools. Sales of the PC once, confined to the office, and then the home, is now flourishing in our schools and colleges. Computer labs, etc are everywhere. Cost of ownership, and uptime are very important in this sector, as well as security of the devices. Tranquil PC are pleased to promote an example of a suitable software system, provided by VCI of America. The BXP system is takes full advantage of the low cost T3 units, as diskless workstations, these units boot themselves from a suitable server, such as the T2 unit. The server can hold numerous ‘images’ – i.e. for different classes. Upon re-boot the T3’s revert back to the original ‘image’ or a new one (next age group) etc.
The questions of security are answered here, the T3’s are useless outside of the class room, and this message can be laser etched on the front (along with the school name). The question of reliability and data corruption, no problem, the units re-set on each re-boot.
